Deconvolution for dispersion images in surface wave analysis

Abstract
Dispersion images can be described by the convolution of the theoretical spectrum with the array smoothing function. To make dispersion images clearer, we applied a deconvolution technique to the dispersion images estimated by the multichannel analysis of surface waves (MASW). Deconvolution of dispersion images was applied to purely and numerically synthesized data including higher modes. When fundamental mode of surface waves is predominant, the peaks of the dispersion images corresponding to surface wave dispersion curves become sharp by deconvolution of dispersion images. When multimode components of surface waves are included, different modes of surface waves can be separated by deconvolution although it was difficult to separate different mode components by MASW.
