Marine electrical resistivity measurement with a vertical electrode configuration

Abstract
We have developed a marine DC method with a vertical electrode configuration (VEC). In our marine VEC-DC system, we have introduced water-resistant multiconductor electrode cable and a commercial onshore multichannel DC measurement system to improve data quality with respect to existing data that we collected during preliminary experiments in 2010. Then, we conducted field testing of our new system in the shallow water zone at Shimizu Port, Shizuoka, Japan. The observed data show good agreement with forward modeling responses and the data are of higher quality than those obtained during our preliminary experiment. New system can also increase data acquisition speed by up to ten times relative to our previous experiment.
