A Measurement of the Quality Factor in Soft-rock Site Using a Seismic Source

Abstract
The understanding of an attenuation property of ground is important for construction of large structures as a view point of an evaluation of a seismic safety. A method for evaluation of an attenuation property using a PS logging technique has been focused and applied recently because of the advantage of this technique such as a possibility to evaluate an attenuation property easily and in detail before the construction of structures. In applying this technique to a field, it is required to consider optimal parameters of a field and data acquisition, because these parameters will affect to a signal-to-noise ratio of data. In this paper, we introduce the field measurement which was implemented at a soft-rock site using a vibrator seismic source and a borehole which was drilled at a depth of 1000m. The result of the field measurement enabled us to evaluate the attenuation property at the soft-rock site in detail and derive a general measurement guideline.
