A study on the relationship between microtremor characteristics and damages due to the 1943 Tottori earthquake

Abstract
Relationship between ground response and damages is studied in Tottori city area. The area was suffered severe damage from the 1943 Tottori earthquake and the damages distributed in dapple. Dense microtremor observations have been conducted in the area and predominant periods and velocity structures were accumulated. It is found that damages of wooden houses were concentrated in the area where predominant periods are rather short. It suggests that thin soft sediments on hard bedrock generate large response in short period range that matches the resonance period of wooden houses.
