Imaging for the underground cavity using cosmic ray muons

Abstract
We have developed three-dimensional geotomography system for cavity exploration using cosmic ray muons (Suzuki et al., 2011). Multi-channel muon telescope has been developed to measure the incident muons of five directions for efficiency at time. We succeeded in three-dimensional visualization of the ground. However, as for the three-dimensional tomography, that is not applicable for cavity explorations in case of the emergency to need time for a measurement and analysis. In this report it is shown that a method to judge cavity presence as promptly as possible using survey data and examined a cavity judging method by survey and the forward modeling for the spatial resolution. As a result, even if it did not perform tomography analysis, we could judge cavity presence. Our approach is effective for the cavity exploration in the case of the emergency.
