Estimation of soil thermal resistance around underground power transmission line using geophysical surveys (5) -Application to the sites of underground power transmission lines-

Abstract
Design of underground power transmission lines requires simple and effective techniques for estimating soil thermal resistance which is one of the most important engineering properties to determine the transmission capacity of power lines. To verify the estimation method of soil thermal resistance by geophysical exploration method, we have conducted in-situ measurements at underground power line sites. As a result, we could estimate the boundary between the alluvium and embankment by the S-wave velocity sections. We calculated the thermal resistance by empirical formula based on soil types linking between the thermal resistance and electrical resistivity. The high thermal resistance zones more than the standard values were partly detected along the survey lines.
