Distortion on 3-D inversion of MT responses by near-surface heterogeneity

Abstract
Recently, the three-dimensional magnetotelluric (3-D MT) inversion is widely applied to the field data. However, the small-scale heterogeneities near the surface can distort the observed regional MT responses, so-called as "static shift" or "static distortion". A few studies have been reported how the near-surface effect can distort the sub-surface image obtained by 3-D MT inversion. In this study, we discuss about such effect and propose a correction method in the inversion procedure.
