High Resolution Processing of Seismic Survey Data Using CWT - Continuous Wavelet Transform -

Abstract
For the sake of precise evaluation of subsurface resources including oil and gas, a method that enhances the resolution of seismic data using Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) is presented. CWT gives the time-frequency spectrum and has been utilized to analyze phenomena like time-frequency dependent attenuation in seismic survey data. We implemented the processing procedure using spectral flattening (deconvolution) and amplitude balancing in the time-frequency domain. Our method can be applied to various types of data such as CMP gathers, PSTM gathers or stacked sections and elaborately reconstructs subsurface image of high resolution. When this method, CWT high resolution processing, was applied to the real data characterized by strongly band-limited or low frequency images, their resolutions were adequately improved. Moreover, CWT high resolution processing was superior to a conventional spectral whitening method because it showed less sensitivity against the artificial noise generated by migration.
