The inside cavity exploration in the embankment adjacent to an abutment using Microtremor array survey and Seismic waves transmission method


Abstract
Inside cavities in railway embankments occur adjacent to abutments due to difficulty of compaction and infiltration. But it is difficult to explore these cavities. So, a model embankment was made adjacent to an abutment for the purpose to try several kinds of exploration methods. Ten such methods were tested and microtremor array survey and seismic waves transmission method identified most of the inside cavities. Then, these methods were tried on the railway embankment adjacent to an abutment. Several inside cavities were detected by microtremor array survey, and different wave profiles were confirmed in the areas adjacent to an abutment by seismic waves transmission method.
