Study on the amplitude of cross correlation based on the theory of seismic interferometry

Abstract
We investigated the signal and the noise of cross correlation physically comparing with the theory by Tsai (2011). We demonstrate the noise of the cross correlation becomes lower when we increasing the data amount for the analysis while the signal parts of the cross correlation have the constant value. We also show longer periods noise is lower than that at the shorter periods. This result compares with the theory and for estimating the data amount required for the analysis quantitatively. The attenuation of the signal is relatively more rapid than geometrical spreading of surface waves probably due to the intrinsic attenuation and source distribution.
