Shiraiwa kiln site survey using VLF-MT method

Abstract
The Shiraiwa site is famous as the oldest climb kiln in Akita Prefecture. The pottery in Shiraiwa is popular in the Akita Prefecture Senboku City Kakunodate-cho. The pottery in this area was used not only by daimyo (feudal) but also by heimin (common people). But it ended by the collapse of the shogunate system and the influence of the Rikuu earthquake in 1886. In order to check the effectiveness of the VLF-MT survey, we have explored the position of the Kichigoro kiln and the Taichiro kiln. As a result, the position and the size of these kiln vestige were specified by the change of resistivity, phase angle difference, the amount of Poynting vector. The results of this survey were compared with the description of the literature and the electric and magnetic surveys. Obtained results indicate a good agreement with each other.
