A Measurement of the Quality Factor in Hard-rock Site Using a Seismic Source

Abstract
The understanding of the attenuation property of the ground is important parameter in evaluating a seismic safety for large structures like nuclear power facilities. For the evaluation of the seismic safety, it is usual to conduct geophysical investigations to understand attenuation property using earthquake monitoring and analysis method, active seismic source method, etc.. The active seismic source method using vibrator seismic source has recently attracted attention because it is possible to generate arbitrary frequency into the ground. In this paper, we introduce the field measurement, which was implemented using a vibrator seismic source to understand the attenuation property at the hard-rock site. The results of the field measurement enabled us to determine the attenuation property and proved the effectiveness of this measurement technique in evaluating the attenuation property.
