We conducted pulsed nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurement to characterize unfrozen brine when subjected to cooling from temperature -1oC to -15oC. NMR has been widely used in characterization of reservoir properties such as porosity, permeability, water-hydrocarbon content etc. When brine undergoes cooling, solid-liquid coexisting system establish and there exist multiple phases. We used multi-exponential curve fitting algorithm to obtain T2 relaxation spectrum. We also conducted laboratory experiment to measure compressional ultrasonic wave attenuation in partially frozen brine. Temperature of the system was varied from 20oC to -15oC. The experiment was carried out for the transmitter to receiver distances of 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6cm respectively. We estimated attenuations in the frequency range of 350 kHz to 600 kHz. We compared NMR results with the attenuation estimations.
