Suggested standard format for describing geophysical section and the development of database system (Part 1): Outline of the database system.

Abstract We have developed a web database system which manages geophysical section data in addition to the geotechnical boring data. In 2010, we proposed a digital standard format for describing geophysical section in XML. The establishment of standard format only enables us to store, share and distribute digital geophysical sections on the web. The web database system not only distributes the original digital data but also streams graphic images of the geophysical sections upon request. The system is expected to play an important role for the sustainable development of land and for disaster prevention through the nationwide information service on geophysical and geotechnical properties of the near-surfaces of Japan.
