| Abstract | Velocity is valuable information for finding the methane hydrate-bearing sediments. Only use of velocity for finding MH-bearing sediments is not enough and recent surveys have shown that the presence of MH in sediments has significant influence on seismic attenuation. The purpose of this study is estimating the scattering attenuation and source-formation radiation coupling from total attenuation for more accurate estimation for finding MH-bearing sediments. In this study, we used synthetic sonic waveform data for more precise estimation of scattering attenuations and source-formation radiation coupling because methods for calculating scattering attenuations and source-formation radiation coupling use empirical rules. Firstly, we estimated attenuation at Nankai Trough area. The method to be applied for estimating attenuation in this study was the median frequency shift method. Secondly, we calculated synthetic sonic waveform data at Nankai Trough area and estimated scattering attenuation results. Thirdly, we calculated source-formation radiation coupling using synthetic sonic waveform data. |
