A study on evaluating rock block stability by the noncontact vibration measurements of rock slopes using remotely-positioned Laser Doppler Vibrometers

Abstract
The authors have been doing a study on evaluation method of rock slope stability by remotely-positioned Laser Doppler Vibrometers (LDV), which is supported by the Program for Promoting Fundamental Transport Technology Research from the Japan Railway Construction, Transport and Technology Agency (JRTT). Last year, we have carried out a model experiment using concrete block model. However, the adhesion bond used in the experiments was too strong to model unstable blocks. This time, we used two kinds of plasters. Although the quantitative analyses are to be done in future, we will continue to research for obtaining the relationship between vibration characteristics and mechanical stability of rock blocks.
