Evaluation of near-surface attenuation of S-waves based on PS logging and vertical array records (Part 2)

Abstract
Near-surface attenuations of S-waves based on the PS logging and vertical array records were examined to clarify their physical mechanisms using the actual observed data obtained at the Tsukuba test site. The observed total attenuation can be almost explained by scattering attenuation in a broad sense due to the transmission and reflection of S-waves propagation with random velocity fluctuation of the ground. It is reasonable to understand that the overestimated attenuation of the ground was caused by the effect of the rough velocity model assumptions for inverse analysis.
