The Characteristics of long period microtremor and application for ground investigation in Shanghai, China

Abstract
As an important method for geological structure survey for earthquake hazard prediction in urban area, research on the applicability of long period microtremor is being started with some main cities over China from 2009. The authors carried out a series of microtremor observation in Shanghai, the economic central city of China on the east coast area and studied its characteristics and applicability. The result shows that the H/V spectrum ratio has peaks between 0.1Hz to 1Hz and the peak frequency has good relationship with the confirmed depth of seismic basement, reveals the possibility of estimating seismic basement depth from H/V spectrum ratio. The study also estimated the average shear wave velocity of the sedimentary layers above the seismic basement as about 450m/s over the urban area. From the result of the study, we can consider that the microtremor survey is effective for seismic microzonation analysis in Shanghai area.
