Time domain electromagnetic technologies for the ocean bottom mineral resources

Abstract
In order to develop the optimal measurement technologies for the seabed mineral deposits, the type, arrangement, and intensity of transmitters and receivers of time-domain electromagnetic prospecting were examined by numerical simulations and water tank experiments. As a result, the responses of the time-domain electromagnetic prospecting are shown to be reasonably sensitive to the boundary and thickness of the seabed mineral deposits. Moreover, the signal levels are in the measureable range. Therefore, the time-domain electromagnetic prospecting methods can be effective for the survey of the seabed mineral deposits.
