Three-dimensional estimation with directional borehole radar using dipole array antenna fed by coaxial cables

Abstract
In this paper, we show three-dimensional estimation by a directional borehole radar system using a dipole array antenna fed by coaxial cables. With this system, we conducted field experiments in skarn underground cavity at Nakatatsu Mine. Installing one transmitting dipole antenna and the receiving dipole array antenna in single borehole, we carried out singlehole borehole radar measurement. Significant reflected waves from a fault were observed in the radar signals. Based on time differences of the arrival waves at the array antenna, we estimated the arrival directions and three-dimensional features of the fault.
