An Approach to Evaluating the Quality Factor Using a Vertical Array Seismometer - Exploration Using a Seismic Source -

Abstract
The attenuation characteristic of the ground is the most important parameter in evaluating the propagation of the seismic wave between mediums. The quality factor, which is known as a parameter that indicates attenuation of the ground, has been studied as a function of the frequency and will be discussed. In this paper, we introduce the field measurement, which was implemented using a vertical array seismometer and vibrator seismic source to understand the quality factor as a function of the frequency. The results of the field measurement enabled us to determine the quality factor at each frequency and proved the effectiveness of this measurement technique in evaluating the attenuation characteristic.
