Estimation of soil thermal resistance around underground power transmission line using geophysical surveys 1 -Relationship among thermal resistance, resistivity and seismic velocity-

Abstract
Design of underground power transmission lines requires simple and effective techniques for estimating soil thermal resistance which is one of the most important engineering properties to determine the capacity of power lines. In order to study the relationship between thermal resistance, electric resistivity and S-wave velocity with the parameter of water saturation, we conducted laboratory experiments using soil samples including backfill materials which are usually used for underground power transmission line construction. As a result, we found a positive correlation between thermal resistance and electrical resistivity, and a relation between S-wave velocity and soil granular size. We developed an empirical formula between thermal resistance and electrical resistivity.
