Examination and the fundamental experiment for the geophysical exploration system development using cosmic ray muons


Abstract
We carried out examination and the fundamental experiment to develop the geophysical exploration system using cosmic ray muons. It is already reported about the concept of the system which used cosmic ray muons. Spatial resolution and the efficiency of the exploration are restricted by the size of the detector and the distance between two detectors. We produced the prototype in the existing report as for the diameter was 35cm and the distance between two detectors was 2m. We produced two prototypes to miniaturize the diameter and the distance between detectors. The one prototype of diameter and distance between two detectors are 24.5cm and 1.4m respectively. The other prototype diameter and the distance between two detectors are 17.5cm and 1m respectively. We performed the calibration testing in the open air to confirm the performance of these three prototypes. We improved the precision of the density by the calibration testing. Furthermore, we acquired the data in quarry ruins, and it was shown the upper topography of the quarry.
