Impact of signal generator shape and near-surface underground structure on seismic wave propagation

Abstract
Conventional wave propagation simulations have used point or line sources. Few studies examined whether it is appropriate to use point or line sources which have no volume to represent baseplate or other actual sources which have finite volume. I calculated wave propagation for some ground models with both point source and baseplate source. Then I compared them to evaluate how efficiently the numerical calculations including baseplate structure is used for discussion about seismic wave generation and propagation. Finally, I found significant difference between point source and baseplate source and then proposed a new method of seismic processing.
