Inferred sand distribution in turbidite channel -Application to methane hydrate concentrated zone in the Eastern Nankai Trough-

Abstract
To evaluate resource potential of methane hydrate, high resolution 3D seismic survey and multi-well drilling campaign were conducted in the eastern Nankai Trough by METI. Research Consortium for Methane Hydrate Resources in Japan, MH21 has delineated more than 10 methane hydrate concentrated zone which were roughly classified into lobe and channel in the seismic geomorphology point of view. In this reports, high amplitude reflectors which are related to multiple layers of turbidity sand bodies filled with methane hydrate were picked. Referring to the group of the picked reflector patches, the whole of methane hydrate concentrated zone and its detailed internal structure were delineated. Additionally, it is possible to estimate reservoir property of each patch by considering the patches connectivity and geological characters. Furthermore, well logs and core information indicate that center of the patch contain much sand than edge of the patch. The knowledge will contribute to detailed geological model of channel type methane hydrate concentrated zone. This study is carried out as MH21 research of Resources Assessment.
