The Present State and Problems of Seismic Refraction Method in Civil Engineering Investigations

Abstract
The authors have been improving a seismic refraction method in civil engineering site investigations since the middle of 1990s. Small and light digital seismographs and tomographic analysis methods are introduced in the improvement. These new data acquisition and analysis methods are used in the most of the refraction investigations for engineering purposes. However, these changes in data acquisition and analysis are not widely known except engineering geophysicists. This paper will review recent improvement and summarize the present state and problems of the seismic refraction method in civil engineering investigations.
