An interpretation of the crossplot of resistivity and S-wave velocity for unsaturated soil

Abstract
Laboratory experiment has been conducted to improve the interpretation of the crossplot of the resistivity and the S-wave velocity for unsaturated soil. The resistivity and the S-wave-velocity have been measured for different kinds of soil, gravel, sandy, intermediate and clayey soil, in the experiment. Comparing the obtained data with theoretical curves of effective medium models, the parallel resistance model for the resistivity and the friable sand model for the S-wave velocity, we found some important results to interpret the crossplot for unsaturated soil. The data of loose soil are tend to be plotted at upper left area in the crossplot, and the data of coarse soil, gravel and coarse sand, are plotted at upper right area. The results can be used to evaluate the vulnerability to seepage and erosion of levees.
