The effect of sources shape for seismic wave propagation

Abstract
In this study, we performed three dimensional seismic wave simulations including a baseplate structure of a vibrator source. Conventional wave propagation simulations have used point or line sources. Few studies examined whether it is appropriate to use point or line sources which have no volume to represent baseplate or other actual sources which have finite volume. We calculated wave propagation for some ground models with both point source and baseplate source. Then we compared them to evaluate how efficiently the numerical calculations including baseplate structure is used for discussion about seismic wave propagation. Finally, we found measurable difference between point source and baseplate source. Further research will be needed to study more detailed and realistic effect for real seismic exploration.
