An experimental study on the noncontact vibration measurements of rock slopes by remotely-positioned laser doppler vibrometer

Abstract
The authors have just started a study on evaluation method of rock slope stability by remotely-positioned Laser Doppler Vibrometers, which is supported by the Program for Promoting Fundamental Transport Technology Research from the Japan Railway Construction, Transport and Technology Agency. First, some basic experiments were carried out to examine if the LDV could acquire almost the same data as those obtained by geophones. As the results, we found that the LDV worked well as one-component geophone. The paper also described the plan of this research including concrete model experiments, which have to be done for obtaining the quantitative relationship between vibration characteristics and mechanical stability of rock blocks.
