Design of new vibroseis-type signal generator through finite element method

Abstract
The new superconducting-type signal generator is being developed by JGI. This new vibroseis is expected to have great advantages in terms of real time response to the operation and easiness of maintenance against hydraulic-type signal generator which we have usually used. In addition, the new machine has high capability of maximum energy output. Therefore, this new generator may enable us to explore deeper structure. In this study, we performed a dynamic model simulation using FEM to design and evaluate the new generator. The final purpose of this research is to clarify good points of the new generator by comparing superconductive-type vibroseis with hydraulic-type vibroseis and to offer best design of new vibroseis. The essential point of the design is the optimization of machine weight that focus on making significant power in the future and ideal characteristics of the seismic wave which will be obtained by the actual vibroseis. Since the simulation of signal generation mechanism has rarely been studied until now, we compared the result of this simulation with that of conventional point source type simulation with paying attention to the point whether simulating vibroseis mechanism makes an impact on resulting wave figure.
