Numerical modeling for marine and nearshore DC and EM methods

Abstract
In recent years, marine and nearshore direct current and electromagnetic explorations have gained considerable attention for a broad range of geological target such as fault structure, ground water condition, site characterization of nuclear waste depository, carbon dioxide capture and storage, hydrocarbon reservoir and seafloor hydrothermal deposit beneath coastal and deep water areas. In this study, we have developed and modified modeling codes for marine and nearshore DC/EM exploration based on 1-D DC linear filtering, 2.5-D DC/CSEM and 3-D DC finite element method. We demonstrate that our new DC/EM numerical modeling methods can be effectively applied for computer simulation of marine and nearshore DC/EM applications.
