Advantage of two methods for P and S wave separation using dispersion relationship

Abstract
In combined P and S observations with the geophones, the recognition of the individual P and S arrivals would be of importance. We describe two methods to separate a three-dimensional elastic wave field recorded at three-component geophones into P, SV, and SH waves. One is a method to separate wave-field into each wave in F-K domain, and the other in tau-p domain. Both of the separating methods are based on a plane-wave decomposition of elastic wave fields using the dispersion relationship. In this paper, we apply these two methods to three-dimensional synthetic data created by finite difference method. We confirmed that both of the methods could decompose elastic wave-field into each of P, SV, and SH waves.
