Experimental Study of elastic wave attenuation in partially frozen brine part 5 -correction of the effect of spectral leakage-

Abstract
Methane hydrate bearing layer is known as high speed and high attenuation layer in seismic exploration. We conducted a laboratory experiment to understand the attenuation mechanism and found that there is high correlation between constant Q and ratio of unfrozen fluid. We used spectral ratio method to calculate Q and in that process, the window function was applied. It is well known that window function causesspectral leakage in frequency domain. In this study, we investigated the effect of window function in spectral ratio technique, and verified the correction of Q. First, we operated a convolution of wave spectral and window spectral. Second, we verified the value of calculated Q by numerical experiment. Finally, we found the correction of Q is possible if the window is long enough to cover all the waves of object bandwidth more than one cycle.
