Thermal properties of marine sediments recovered from the eastern flank of the Juan de Fuca Ridge

Abstract
Characteristics of four thermal properties, thermal conductivity, heat capacity, specific heat, and thermal diffusivity, to porosity of marine sediments recovered in the eastern flank of the Juan de Fuca Ridge are reported. Vertical distributions of the thermal properties of sediments strongly depend on their lithological characteristics. For clay sediment, thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity are positively correlated to porosity, whereas heat capacity and specific heat are correlated negatively to porosity. For sandy sediments, on the other hand, porosity and other properties seem to be constant. In the presentation, relations of thermal properties to porosity for the sediments are also examined.
