Investigation of relationship between elastic property and porosity of Horonobe, Japan

Abstract
In this study, we have applied the friable-sand model and bimodal mixture model to soft sedimentary rock in Horonobe, Japan. The friable-sand model could explain relationship between compressional modulus and porosity. However, the friable-sand model ignores porosity change caused by clay content change. The bimodal mixture model could explain the relationship among compressional modulus, porosity, and clay content. We propose to utilize a nomogram made from the bimodal mixture model. Porosity and clay content could be determined from compressional modulus and depth by using the nomogram.
