A comparison between impactor and mini-vibrator seismic source

Abstract
A Surface seismic source is one of the most important factors for a seismic reflection survey. We compared surface seismic sources for selecting suitable one for a survey area condition. Impactor and Vibrator are typical non-explosive seismic source. For the comparison, P-wave seismic reflection survey was conducted in Kushimoto town, Wakayama. We used JMI-200 oil pressure impactor and IVI Minivib in the survey. The survey line length was 2000m. In the survey line, we acquired two data set using two kind of seismic sources. We compared each shot gather and migrated section. In the shot gathers and migrated sections, we recognize some differences depending on the seismic sources.
