| Abstract | Ground penetrating radar GPR images depend strongly on the relative geometry between the transmitter, the receiver and the subsurface target. This dependence results from the polarization properties of the antennae and from the sensitivity of the reflector to the polarization of the incident electromagnetic wave. The GPR full polarimetry HH, HV, VH, VV data are obtained with Vivaldi antenna in the sand pit to detect buried target. The radar system consist a Vector Network Analyzer VNA, Vivaldi antennas, an antenna positioner unit, and a PC based control unit. Co-polarization reflection measurement was very sensitive to the large amplitude direct wave. Cross polarization of transmitter and receiver antennas significantly diminishes the surface reflection integrated at the receiving antenna. We have analyzed polarimetric characteristics of the target. We confirm the polarization behavior of the target is well described by the theoretical scattering matrix. |
