Calibration shifts in Scintrex CG-3M gravimeters

Abstract
We calibrated three Scintrex CG-3M gravimeters three times over eight years from 1999 to 2006, using a calibration line with a gravity difference of 1.38 Gal. The scale factor correction coefficients, abbreviated to calibration factors, obtained here vary with time in a range of 10-4, indicating that they shifted at rates of the order of 10-5/year even several years after manufacturing. The large shift of calibration factors confirmed to us that the calibration factors must be corrected from those calculated before and after the measurements in order to accomplish microgravity measurements when gravity differences between a reference gravity site and survey sites are of the order of a few hundred mGal or more. We present an example of application of calibration factors obtained here to Iwo-tou gravity measurements.
