High Performance Computing of the Three-Dimensional Underground Structure Model by Graphical Processing Unit


Abstract
The amount of data which is used the calculating of the theree-dimensional underground structre model is increasing lately. But a clock frequency of Central Processing Unit -CPU- reach the heigest limit. Graphical Processing Unit -GPU- can be higher performance computing for graphical processing than CPU. The essential of graphical processing is the floating point number processing. The floating point number processing is an imoportant ability for scientific calculation. Landmark studies a high performance computing by GPU and finds that the performance of calculation by GPU is over 10 times one by CPU. We studied GPU and we found that the calculation of FFT and histgram by GPU is higher performace than one of CPU. In this study we study a high performance computing for three-dimensional underground structure model by GPU.
