| Abstract | In order to detect underground objects buried under the street, we conducted a feasibility study based on the seismic reflection method using the giant-magnetostriction vibrator. The vibrator can transmit a sweep signal from 100 Hz to several 1000 Hz using the power generator by preparing the number of spools of coil. The artificial ground was solidified by fine sand within the tank (L:5m, W:1.5m, D:2.5m) containing two pipes of 1.5 m and 2.0 m depth which diameters are 10 cm and 20 cm. At first, we conducted the experiment using the vibrator as the P-wave source. It is very difficult to detect the reflectors from the buried pipes. Next, we conducted two experiments using it as the S-wave source. One case is that the direction of the vibrator and the receivers is rectangular to the measurement line (case A). The other case is that the direction is parallel to the line (case B). As results, in the case A, the reflectors from the pipes are not clear, disturbed by the strong surface waves. Whereas, in the case B, the reflectors are very clear because the surface waves weaken. |
